Song is: "Anchors Aweigh" from Vietnam Jukebox Active Duty Time Sept. 6, 1966 Reported to Painesville (Lake County Courthouse) for Induction. Rode on a bus up to Cleveland where joined bunch of other recruits to leave on an overnight train to Chicago. Started finding out what "Hurry up and wait" meant. After getting to Chicago rode on train out to Great Lakes Recruiting Station. Started wondering if I had made the right decision. Everyone was kept up , couldn't sleep, taking tests that after awhile wondered what it was all for. Formed beginnings of friendships even though lost touch with them over the years. Sept. 15, 1966 Song is: "We Got To Get Out Of This Place" from Vietnam Jukebox Commenced Basic Training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. (Company 548). One of my best friends was a guy named Quinn H. Lollis from Waco, Texas. Two songs became very popular with me and my Boot Camp buddies. Just click on the above and following songs and you'll understand. The first song was a universal song loved by everyone who had been in this predicument. (I didn't realize at this time just how much meaningful this song was until I was in Vietnam in 1968) Song is: "All In The Game" from Vietnam Jukebox The second song whenever we heard it playing on the radio, everyone would get kind of quiet and then join in on the chorus: Nov. 22, 1966 Boot camp Completed. (First met Charles D. Mitchell during Service Week when he trained me to take his place keeping bottom floor of building (?) cleaned. (Janitor work) Boot Leave Commenced upon Graduation. Dec. 5, 1966 Reported to US Naval Hospital Corpsman School at Great Lakes. (Boot Leave ended.) Dec. 19, 1966 Song is: "500 Miles" from Vietnam Jukebox Started Hospital Corpsmen School, Company 77. (While going through training,1/2 of the company got to go home for Christmas and the other half at New Years. Guess which one I got? I pulled Christmas duty. The guys who went home got caught up in one of the worse blizzards that ever occurred. Some were stranded over 1500 miles from Base and had to go to Captain's Mast. that later was reduced. I didn't go home for New Years. I pulled duty during Christmas shoveling snow off of the side walks.) March 23, 1967 Completed Corpsman School (14 weeks, 35th out of 65). next page previous page This page hosted by Get your own Free Home Page
